Make Your Day special with the Komodo dragon and diving trips

Image
Having found the best dive shop in Komodo and doing a couple of day trips with Mikumba Diving , I decided to sign up for their “Best of Central & North” liveaboard.  I’ve been on a few different liveaboards in South East Asia, but yet again, these guys made me enjoy my trip so much, that I really think they are the best Komodo liveaboard you can book. Our trip was 4 days and 3 nights, and at the end of it, I really didn’t want to leave!  From the moment we joined the boat, we were made to feel like part of the family – everyone was introduced to us before we even left the harbour, even though they were busy trying to take us out to the Komodo National Park , they had time to meet the guests and welcome us to our home for the next few days, “Ratu Pelangi” – which we found out means Rainbow Queen. We set off from the harbour, eager to get to our first dive – some of the others on the boat hadn’t been diving for a while, but that wasn’t a problem, we were going...

Safe & fun diving in Komodo National Park

Image
The Komodo diving is famous for being challenging. The area is quite affected to the currents running through every day but that is also what makes the diving in Komodo so amazing to experience. But it does also put pressure on being strict when it comes to safety. Even though you’ve experienced diving with currents or not we all know that it comes with certain risks. That’s why we really care about conducting safe diving where ever we go on our boat trips in Komodo . Before every trip we have a proper safety briefing to go through all safety procedures including what we do if we get separated from our group & what happens if the diving staff judges that the conditions are not safe enough. But since the currents is what brings in all the amazing underwater creatures to Komodo, that’s also where you want to be diving. On our daytrips & budget liveaboard in Komodo we always conduct a current check before every dive. This helps us to get a better idea of where we want t...

Top 5 things to do around Komodo, Flores

Image
Even though Komodo is known for having some of the best diving in Indonesia, there are many things to do while you’re here! One of the most iconic and scenic places in Indonesia is definitely Komodo! I've had the pleasure of staying in Labuan Bajo and exploring the surrounding here a little bit more. Both the Komodo National Park and the west side of Flores has a lot of nature experiences to offer. Because I found it a bit difficult to find information about the most visit worthy activities around here I decided to make my guide to the top 5 best activities you can do from Labuan Bajo. So let’s start on number 5 and let the countdown begin! Cunca Wulang. This is a cool waterfall about an hour drive with scooter from Labuan Bajo. It’s a bit of a drive but I enjoyed to discover some of the country side here, instead of just doing a boat trip in Komodo . When you get to the parking area you need a guide to take you to the waterfall. we paid 140k for the three of us. Rangk...

A day on our budget liveaboard in Komodo

Image
The absolute best way to explore & experience Komodo is on a liveaboard, and here’s a brief sum-up of how a trip with us would be like. “Time to wake up! Dive briefing in 30 minutes” It’s usually the sound of our crew going around the boat making sure you’re up in time for the 1st dive. It’s early and the boat is gently rocking by the ocean and it’s time to explore some of the best diving in Indonesia . Time for some small breakfast of fruit, toast and juice before our first dive briefing. It’s amazing to jumping into the ocean early in the morning to enjoy the healthy marine life! During the 1st dive on our budget liveaboard , our chef is preparing a bigger breakfast with pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and fruit platter, so when we get up from the dive we can just dig in! on our boat trip in Komodo we usually move around in-between the dives. So when we move the boat we get ready for dive no.2 at another stunning site diving in Komodo. The regular routine is ...

The Unique style of diving in Raja Ampat

Image
Raja Ampat is considered to offer the best diving in Indonesia . And a survey was conducted to confirm that theory. In 2002, The Nature Conservancy conducted a  scientific survey of the Raja Ampat Islands  to collect information on its marine ecosystems, mangroves, and forests. The survey stated that the scientists found 537 species of corals Dive Raja Ampat – that’s an incredible 75% of all known coral species. In addition, 828 fish species were recorded, raising the known total for the area to an amazing 1,074!? The Raja Ampat government declared in 2010 their waters to be a shark sanctuary and outlawed the capture and killing of sharks, turtles, dugongs and rays. This is part of why the marine life in Raja Ampat is so incredibly rich. Another reason for this is the currents that are running through the region. It brings in big stuff migration like oceanic mantas, whales and also a lot of nutrient for the reef fish. To reach all the hot spots of Raja Ampat a livea...
